Empowering Black Women in Construction
Welcome to Vaka, a community-led platform empowering Black African and Black British women in the UK construction industry.
Through structured mentorship, visibility, and advocacy, Vaka builds a supportive community that uplifts women navigating careers, caregiving, and cultural identity in a male-dominated field.
Join us on this journey of empowerment, connection, and change.
Our Mission
Construction is still 85% male and Black women are rarely seen in technical, design, or leadership roles. Vaka exists to change that.
We are a growing community committed to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for Black African and Black British women in the UK construction industry. Our mission is to provide mentorship, visibility, and advocacy for women navigating careers, caregiving, and cultural identity in a sector that often overlooks them.
Whether you're new to the industry, raising a family while leading projects, or searching for where you fit. This is your space too.
Let’s reshape construction together and build a community where Black women can thrive on their own terms.
Our Founding Mentor
Taffy Booth is the founder of Studio Booth Ltd, a design manager, and a Black woman in construction. With 20+ years in the industry, she’s built a career while navigating care, culture, and visibility. As a first-generation entrepreneur and parent-carer, she launched Vaka to create space for Black African and Black British women to thrive through mentorship, advocacy, and community.
"Vaka has created a space where Black women in construction can thrive and support each other, and I'm honored to be a part of this inspiring movement."
